A MAN was killed in a crash on a North Yorkshire road last night.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to the A19 Easingwold Bypass between Thirsk and Easingwold at about 7.40pm on Thursday, where a Vauxhall Viva and a motorcycle had collided.
A spokesman said the rider of the motorcycle was killed in the crash, and the driver of the Viva - a 22-year-old man - was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving.
At the time of the collision Ayres was using a legal hands free system which was fitted to her car and paired to her mobile phone via Bluetooth. The guidelines make that clear.'On the jury's verdict this wasn't a case of her clipping the verge, she was distracted by her phone.'Rules say hands-free kits must be fully hands-free, so motorists can answer calls without touching the device.Police still have the power to stop a motorist if they believe they have been distracted by using a mobile phone while driving, even if it's fully hands-free.Judge John Pini QC adjourned sentence but made it clear to Ayres she was facing jail. The judge said: 'The fact that using a phone (hands free) is lawful does not alter the fact it is an actual distraction.
